All
presenters and participants in Megaconference Jr.
will be required to dial in to an assigned MCU by
IP address to connect for the test rehearsals and
the final conference event. (Presenters will have
a separate MCU from the participants.)
System
Requirements:
H.323 videoconference system, with a hardware
codec.
Single
Person Systems - We recommend VCon Vpoint systems
or Polycom ViaVideos.
Note: No NetMeeting or CU-SeeMe clients are allowed.
(Unfortunately, we also cannot support connections
through iSight cameras.)
Room Systems - Room systems should be hardware based
such as Polycom, Tandberg, VCON, etc.
Network
Requirements:
Ideally, you should have a connection to national
research and education network such as Abilene (Internet2)
in the US, CA*net 4 in Canada, or Gèant in
Europe. If you are not sure whether you are connected
to such a network, you can download the Internet2
Detective, ask your local network person, or
else contact us at the email address below.
The
preferred connection speed for the event is 768
kbps but we will work with sites connecting at 512,
384, or 192 kbps.
If
you do not have access to Internet2, your local
university may have a site you can use. We can work
with you to arrange a site if needed.
Required
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals are required for all presenters and participants.
If you are not presenting and have not yet signed
up for a rehearsal, please sign up at http://megaconfjr.tjtech.org/
Presenters
will be contacted separately for rehearsal signups.
You
are encouraged to join the earliest rehearsal possible,
because if something does not work well, we can
work together to resolve it. To participate in a
rehearsal, just call in to your assigned MCU, using
the calling instructions provided to you, and take
turns announcing your presence. An operator will
talk to you and perhaps ask you some questions.
If you meet all the required criteria, you are done
with the rehearsals.
Not
sure if what you have will work?
Still
wondering how we will connect so many sites simultaneously
via video-conferencing?
Our
expert Tech Committee is available to answer any
and all your questions. Just send them along to
